COVID-19 Update: June 1

Dear FORT Family,
Summer here we come!  We are projecting a pool open date of Monday June 15, 2020.  Thank you to everyone who registered and paid the initiation fee.

Please take time to read and consider our 2020 Policies to determining whether you and your family can comply with the requirements.   If you are no longer interested in joining for summer 2020 please email info@fortswimtennis.org for a refund on or before June 15, 2020.

We are excited that we can open the pool earlier than previously projected and that opening will correspond with our typical daily opening date.  The FORT is  facing unexpected costs of implementing COVID-19 compliance.  To make sure that we can be open to the fullest extent possible, our member rates will follow the 2020 Rate Schedule published earlier this spring (rates unchanged from 2019).

TENNIS:

The USTA has postponed all spring matches.
We hope to open our Tennis courts very soon - updates to follow.
SWIM TEAM:

The Colonial Swim League voted to cancel the regular season.    We are working with Vikye and Tom and the Shark coaches, and Jim and the tennis crew to create a compliant camp option for kids in the mornings.  Please stay tuned for updates.
MEMBERSHIP and REFUNDS:

If you have purchased a membership or a deposit but are no longer able to join us for summer 2020 please email info@fortswimtennis.org for a refund on or before June 15, 2020.
BOARD PLANNING:
We are looking at what activities may be possible at Fort in compliance with official guidance.  We joined with the group of other local pools to request such guidance from County Officials, and we understand that Montgomery County Commissioner Dr. Arkoosh addressed the question of public pool openings at her press conference just last week, indicating that she and other County Officials were looking into the issue but need more information.

The Board submitted an application for CARES funding that could help sustain our operations. We have also been planning for contingencies, looking at the full range of possibilities for adjustments and operating expenses.  The tennis court upgrade, which was partially completed in the fall, will begin again as soon as our contractor is permitted to proceed.

UPKEEP and MAINTANCE:
We are thankful for the continued work of member Dave Williamson in maintaining the pool.  Because of his efforts, if we are permitted to open the pool, we can do so fairly quickly.  Further, Fort’s Manager, Matt Morretti has worked diligently on the grounds, clubhouse and pool in anticipation of the season, without the usual help of volunteer members.  Matt will remain on for the summer to care for the grounds and facility in the event that we are unable to open.

Thank you for your patience as we work through all this uncertainty.  We hope you’ll remain flexible as we move forward in this unprecedented situation to make the best decision for the FORT.
